At our Batesford lime quarry in Victoria, we’re proud to have been recognised for our commitment to responsible quarrying, winning the 2026 Construction Material Processors Association (CMPA) Progressive Rehabilitation Award. This achievement acknowledges our ongoing environmental rehabilitation efforts, responsible site management and commitment to the long-term future of our operations. Located near Geelong, we supply limestone and sand products to customers across Victoria and southern New South Wales, supporting the agricultural, construction and civil industries while maintaining a strong focus on environmental responsibility.
Celebrating our 2026 CMPA Progressive Rehabilitation Award
The CMPA Progressive Rehabilitation Awards, sponsored by Resources Victoria, recognise Victorian quarry operators demonstrating best practices in progressive rehabilitation. The awards acknowledge businesses that actively manage and rehabilitate quarry sites throughout their operational life rather than leaving rehabilitation until extraction activities have finished. They also highlight the importance of integrating environmental management into everyday quarry operations and planning for the long-term future of extraction sites.
We’re pleased that our rehabilitation strategy has been recognised for its clear objectives and alignment with our approved Work Plan. The judging panel also acknowledged our regular reviews to assess rehabilitation effectiveness and ensure activities continue to meet established objectives. The assessment considered the quality of rehabilitation work, alignment with approved plans, ongoing monitoring and improvement, and how rehabilitation objectives influence operational decisions. For our team, this award is a welcome acknowledgement of the planning, ongoing work and commitment involved in managing our site responsibly.
Why progressive quarry rehabilitation matters in Victoria
Progressive quarry rehabilitation is an important part of sustainable quarrying practices throughout Victoria and a key consideration in how we manage our operations. Rather than waiting until a quarry reaches the end of its operational life, progressive rehabilitation involves restoring areas where extraction activities have been completed while operations continue elsewhere on the site. This approach helps minimise the area of disturbed land, improve site amenity and reduce the rehabilitation work remaining when quarrying operations eventually cease. It also provides opportunities to monitor rehabilitation outcomes over time and make adjustments where necessary.
We recognise that effective environmental rehabilitation requires careful planning, regular monitoring and ongoing assessment to ensure activities meet approved objectives. As a quarry operator, we have a responsibility to manage our resources while considering the long-term environmental outcomes of our activities. By incorporating rehabilitation planning into our operational decisions, we aim to maintain a consistent approach to responsible site management while continuing to supply materials to the industries that rely on our products.
Our long-term vision for Batesford Quarry rehabilitation
An important part of our rehabilitation strategy is our long-term vision for the Batesford Quarry site. Our rehabilitation project is expected to transform the 290-hectare limestone quarry into Australia’s largest new freshwater lake developed this century. This proposed transformation reflects the scale of our long-term rehabilitation plans and the importance we place on considering the future of the site beyond its productive life. While this remains a future objective, our rehabilitation strategy provides a framework for managing the quarry throughout its operational life.
Achieving our long-term rehabilitation objectives requires a coordinated approach that considers operational planning, environmental management and the intended final landform. We continue to review our rehabilitation activities to assess their effectiveness and ensure they remain aligned with our approved plans. Receiving this award is an encouraging recognition of the work already undertaken, and reinforces the importance of maintaining our commitment to progressive rehabilitation as quarrying activities continue.
Supporting Victoria’s industries through responsible quarrying
Alongside our environmental rehabilitation initiatives, we continue to supply essential limestone and sand products for a broad range of applications. Our product range includes agricultural lime, soil conditioning lime, coarse lime, limestone rubble, sand products and decorative toppings. Our agricultural lime helps farmers manage soil acidity and improve growing conditions, while our soil conditioning lime supports soil treatment applications. We also supply coarse lime and limestone rubble for agricultural and landscaping requirements, sand products for construction and civil works, and decorative limestone toppings for driveways, pathways and landscaping projects.
We’re proud to support industries that rely on consistent access to quality quarry materials while continuing to prioritise responsible site management and environmental rehabilitation. Winning the 2026 CMPA Progressive Rehabilitation Award is an achievement for our entire team and reflects the ongoing effort involved in balancing quarry operations with long-term environmental planning. We’d like to thank everyone involved in our rehabilitation activities, along with the CMPA for recognising the work being undertaken across Victoria’s extractive industry.
As we continue our operations, environmental rehabilitation and responsible resource management will remain important priorities for our team. To learn more about our limestone and sand products, our operations in Victoria or how we can assist with your requirements, please contact our team.
